From 1983 until May 1994, women’s rugby union across the UK was run by the Women’s Rugby Football Union (WRFU). When it was formed there were 12 founder teams as members, including: Leicester Polytechnic, Sheffield University, UCL, University of Keele, Warwick University, Imperial College, Leeds University, Magor Maidens, University of York and Loughborough University.
The Magor Maidens formed in 1979 when a Californian men’s rugby team toured Britain with their women’s team as well.

Mark Tuesday 20th January 2026 as another momentous day in our club’s history because today, 8 ladies, 8 Magor Maidens started training and launched the next chapter in the history of Magor RFC.
