Season: 2025/2026
Magor RFC vs New Tredegar RFC
It wasn’t the fairy-tale ending we’d hoped for, finishing our WRU Division 6 East Community League campaign with a 12 – 36 loss against a clinical, 2nd-placed New Tredegar side. All of our points coming from the boot of Ryan Bedborough who kicked four penalties.
Thanks once again go to St. Julian’s for hosting the game.
While a 5th place finish feels a bit underwhelming after such a promising start to the season, perspective is everything. Five years ago, this club was just a vision; today, we are a fixture of Welsh rugby. In this game, sometimes just existing and putting a jersey on your back is a victory in itself. We’ve grown, we’ve learned, and the trajectory is firmly pointing upwards.
Huge thanks to all of the players, the volunteers, and every single supporter who stood on the touchline this year. We go again.

Magor RFC vs Brynithel RFC

Glebelands PARK, Newport.
Magor RFC 12 – 31 Brynithel
It was only a month ago that we turned Brynithel over on their own patch and I’m sure they were looking for payback and payback they got. Not really a home game due to the ongoing 4g work at Caldicot Leisure Centre, we switched to St. Julian’s ground at Glebelands Park and we thank St. Julian’s for this.
Brynithel struck first with two converted tries stretching out to a 0 – 14 lead. Still plenty of time to play but Magor were chasing the game. The first Magor score came from a driving lineout with Josh Buffery bagging the spoils and the conversion put over by 15 Aaron Boardman. Brynithel hit back 5 minutes later though with a third converted try making the half time score Magor 7 – 21 Brynithel.
Magor really needed to score next to stay in the game but it was Brynithel who stretched their lead by three when they slotted over a penalty from Magor’s 10m line right in front of the posts. They further stretched the lead just a minute later when a loose ball was picked up by the Brynithel 11 who raced from their 22 to score under the posts. This effectively gave Brynithel the win but Magor had the last word with an unconverted try from Aeddan Erasmus. Brynithel must be pleased with the result, honours even over the two games. Magor and Brynithel are now battling for the fourth spot in Div 6 East with St. Julian’s, Penallta Athletic and New Tredegar stretching away.

Penallta Athletic RFC vs Magor RFC

Ystrad Mynach PARK, Ystrad Mynach.
Penallta Athletic RFC 64 – 5 Magor RFC
We always knew playing high flying Penallta Athletic for the first time would be a tough ask, they have put 99 on Hirwaun and a whopping 141 on Girling this season, and so it proved. This is one of the irritations of being in Division 6, higher level teams dropping down from much higher divisions or “athletic” teams entering at the lowest level makes it really difficult for genuine competition between true Div 6 teams. We just have to suck it up and try our best – its an opportunity for us to try and play at a higher level I suppose.
Things didn’t start well either, Aaron Boardman had to pull out of the starting line up with a knee injury incurred during the warm up.
One thing we can take from this game is that our scrum was far superior to Penallta’s and we pushed them back at virtually every attempt whether it was their ball or ours. We didn’t come away empty handed and Ben Hampson got over the line out on the left fairly late in the game.
We needed better line speed, more desire but when we moved the ball quickly, we caused some problems. Penallta were absolutely clinical though, their number 8 featuring in many moves and scoring a few tries. It was nice to see the young Penallta scrum half who looked after our minis when they were guard of honour at the Dragons #wearegwentrugby!
Just one final word. We are a band of brothers, we stand side by side, win or lose, on the pitch and off it. We’re here for any of our brothers who might be having a tough time, on the pitch and off it. #Uppagor.

GROVE PARK, New Tredegar.
New Tredegar RFC 62 – 7 Magor RFC
A bitter pill to swallow with our heaviest defeat of the season so far. New Tredegar were absolutely clinical with their chances including four interception tries. Our one and only try was scored early on in the game by Captain Ellis Wainwright after New Tredegar had scored bringing the score to NT 5 – 7 Magor and at this point it seemed like we would give them a decent game. Ellis, in fact, left the field before the end of the game with a nasty facial injury. Few plus points to take from a score like this but the scrum functioned well and we had some good spells of possession but weren’t able to convert that into points. Liam Parsons made his debut on the wing from the bench – hopefully a lot more game time to come for Liam. Surprisingly this result made absolutely no difference to the top four, New Tredegar remain in third place and we remain in fourth with first placed St. Julian’s HSOB beating Girling by 95 points to nil and second place Penallta Athletic also picking up 5 points at Old Tyleryan. The top three are beginning to stretch away though and we need to regroup and rediscover our early season form to try and pick up a few more points before the season ends.
